Dance information: Atlanta Ballet’s new hires, dancing in DC, Keith Reeves in New York


Atlanta Ballet choreographer-in-residence Claudia Schreier is creating a brand new work for eight Atlanta Ballet dancers — amongst them Ari Igarashi, Sujin Han, Sergio Masero and Jacob Bush — as a part of an occasion on the Washington Nationwide Cathedral on Saturday, October 22. The 15-minute ballet is a dramatic rendering of Hector Berlioz’s 90-minute choral symphony Roméo et Juliette, introduced by the Cathedral Choral Society. A livestream of the complete occasion, Roméo & Juliette: Berlioz & Shakespeare, will likely be obtainable at 4 p.m. Saturday. Free.

Seven dancers have joined Atlanta Ballet this season, the corporate introduced this week.

Larissa Dal’Santo and Fernando Xavier each hail from the State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Voronezh, Russia. Patric Palkens was a soloist at Boston Ballet for 5 years.

Shifting up from Atlanta Ballet 2 are Severin Brotschul, previously with Houston Ballet II; Evelyn Robinson, a graduate from the College of North Carolina Faculty of the Arts highschool dance program; Kaitlin Matree Roemer, who educated on the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Schooling; and Hui Wen Peng, winner of a silver medal on the Helsinki Worldwide Ballet Competitors in Finland.

“When recruiting new dancers, I’m all for creating expertise, but in addition bringing in dancers to Atlanta Ballet that include data from their time at different firms,” says Gennadi Nedvegin, inventive director. “The combination of rising expertise mixed with inventive experience creates new vitality and is what makes for a compelling firm.”

Former Atlanta Ballet dancer Keith Reeves has joined the New York-based Complexions Modern Ballet. In September, Dwight Roden, Complexions’ co-founder and inventive director, noticed a short video on Reeves’ Instagram account. Roden reached out and invited him to affix the corporate as a principal. Two weeks later Reeves moved to New York. Within the following three weeks he discovered 4 Complexions ballets, together with StarDust, concerning the lifetime of David Bowie, and Hissy Matches, one in all Reeves’ favorites. It’s been a whirlwind,” he says.

Roden was on the lookout for a male dancer to associate Jillian Davis, who’s been with the corporate since 2014. Reeves match the invoice and is studying William Forsythe’s sinuous, leggy Slingerland Duet along with her. The corporate’s fall tour is underway now, ending with a November 22 by way of December 4 engagement at New York’s Joyce Theater. The entire expertise is a dream come true, says Reeves, who labored with Roden at Atlanta Ballet, performing in his Dawn Divine. Reeves danced with Atlanta Ballet for 5 years, and choreographed Our bodies in Movement for the corporate’s Silver Linings program in 2021.
