“I’m so proud” Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions – America On Espresso


Curtis Lee Mayfield

(June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an American soul, R&B, and funk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and document producer, who was one of the influential musicians behind soul and politically aware African-American music. He first achieved success and recognition with the Impressions throughout the Civil Rights Motion of the late Nineteen Fifties and Nineteen Sixties, and later labored as a solo artist.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mayfield began his musical profession in a gospel choir. Shifting to Chicago’s North Facet he met Jerry Butler in 1956 on the age of 14, and joined vocal group the Impressions. As a songwriter, Mayfield turned famous as one of many first musicians to convey extra prevalent themes of social consciousness into soul music. In 1965, he wrote “Individuals Get Prepared” for the Impressions, which displayed his extra politically charged songwriting.

Ranked at no. 24 on Rolling Stone’s listing of the five hundred Best Songs of All Time, the tune obtained quite a few different awards, and was included within the Rock and Roll Corridor of Fame 500 Songs that Formed Rock and Roll, in addition to being inducted into the Grammy Corridor of Fame in 1998.  Wiki
