‘Les Sylphides and Different Works’ opens season fantastically at Ballet Theatre of Maryland

Move and Ebb, choreographed by Soloist Cindy Case, strikes like a fast-running stream to Claude Debussy’s “Finale” of Piano Trio in G Main. The Pas de Quatre of Lindsey Bell, River Byrd, Emily Carey, and Alexander Collen spin one another round with beautiful leg extensions. Sarah Jung and Ryan Massey as a Pas de Deux elevate and carry one another throughout the stage, shifting with grace and energy.

Hijinks and Lullabies, with motion impressions and unique story by visitor choreographer Keith Lee, is a colourful piece of humorous dance. Chickadees Caroline Anderson, Carrie Cornelius, Anne Gutcher, and Sarah Jung, led by Lauren Martinez, transfer throughout the stage like chickens, swaying and even clucking. Isaac Martinez leaps and spins, but in addition rolls on the ground and lip-syncs to the music of Gustav Mahler. River Byrd spins a ship’s wheel whereas extending his legs.
